The most famous event at the Gay Pride Parade is the Canal Parade: a series of fancy-decorated boats parade across the Prinsengracht canal and part of the Amstel River. The parade takes place on the first Saturday of August and attracts numerous visitors each year. Thousands of people stand on the banks of the canals to watch the parade and celebrate equal rights for everyone.
