Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC) is one of Spain’s busiest airports, about 12 km southwest of Alicante city, handling the huge seasonal charter and low-cost traffic that feeds the whole Costa Blanca coast. It operates from a single building, Terminal N (Nueva Área Terminal), opened in 2011 to replace the airport’s older, smaller terminals.

Passenger numbers swell heavily each summer with holidaymakers bound for Benidorm, Torrevieja, Calpe and the many smaller resort towns along this stretch of Spain’s Mediterranean coast.

Getting from Alicante Airport to the Costa Blanca

A pre-booked transfer to Alicante city centre takes around 15 minutes. Onward to the main resorts, Benidorm is around 45 minutes north, Torrevieja around 40 minutes south, and Calpe further up the coast at around 55 to 60 minutes. The TRAM Metropolitano light rail also reaches some of these towns, but for a family or group with luggage, a private transfer waiting at arrivals avoids a change of transport partway through the journey.
