About Kos Airport

Kos Airport (KGS), officially Kos International Airport “Ippokratis” and widely known as Hippocrates Airport after the ancient physician born on the island, sits near the village of Antimachia, roughly in the middle of Kos. That central position means it is not especially close to any one resort; Kardamena on the south coast is nearest, while Kos Town at the island’s northeastern tip is the furthest major stop, at around 24 km.

The airport is compact, with a single small terminal handling the heavy seasonal charter traffic that arrives from across northern Europe each summer alongside a lighter winter schedule.

Getting from Kos Airport to Kos Town and the resorts

A pre-booked transfer to Kos Town takes around 30 minutes via the island’s central road. Public buses connect the airport to the main resorts, but the timetable thins out in the evening and on Sundays, and charter flights routinely land later than the last convenient bus, so a private transfer that meets the flight is the more reliable option, especially for families or late arrivals.

Terminals and pickup points

Kos Airport operates from a single terminal building, with all arrivals and departures using the same hall regardless of airline or destination. Pre-booked transfer drivers wait just outside baggage claim with a name sign confirmed in your booking.

Common transfer routes from Kos Airport

Typical routes from KGS include:

  • KGS to Kos Town and the marina, around 30 minutes.
  • KGS to Kardamena, around 10 minutes.
  • KGS to Tigaki and Marmari, around 20 minutes.
  • KGS to Kefalos, around 40 to 45 minutes.
  • KGS to Mastichari (for the Kalymnos ferry), around 15 minutes.

Travellers connecting onward to Kalymnos, Nisyros or other Dodecanese islands often book a transfer straight to the port at Mastichari or Kos Town rather than routing through a resort first.

Booking your Kos Airport transfer

Compare licensed Greek island operators on this site for any KGS route. You get one fixed price up front, meet-and-greet at the terminal, flight tracking and free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, iDEAL, Wero and PayPal are all accepted.

Because Kos runs a heavy charter schedule in July and August, booking a vehicle 24 to 48 hours ahead is a good idea in peak season, even though last-minute bookings remain possible when capacity allows.
