Best places to see the Northern light

Seeing the Northern light is definitely something on the bucket list. The Northern lights are bright “dancing” lights of the aurora and are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere. The lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. The Northern lights appear is many colors, however, pale green and pink are the most common. Finland

Finland is one of the countries where the Northern light is visible. You will have to go to the northern part in order to see the most beautiful lights, however, in other places, it might be visible too. The lights shine nearly every other night from September to March. Something to keep in mind is that temperatures can get quite cold. However, there are a lot of solutions to beat the cold. There are glass igloos which you can book in order to be able to see the lights from the comfort of your warm bed.

Norway

Not only is Norway worth visiting because of the beautiful lights, also the vibrantly colored fishing villages, gaping fjords, and expansive nature are definitely worth seeing. There are a lot of beautiful places in Norway to see the northern light, however, it is recommended to avoid the city lights because these lights will have an effect on the beauty of the Northern lights. Here are some good cities to visit for the Northern lights: Svalbard, Tromso, Harstad, and Bodo. The best time to visit would be from October to March.

Iceland

Iceland is a special place to see the Northern lights because this country also has the most beautiful volcanic landscapes, geothermal hot springs, and beautiful waterfalls. The unique thing about watching the northern lights in Iceland is that it can be done from the comforts of thermal hot springs, or your own private campervan in the wilderness. The best time to visit Iceland if you want to see the northern lights is from early September to end of April.

Canada

Not only in Europe, the northern light is visible, but also in the northern parts of Canada. In the middle of the wilderness, people are able to witness the aurora regularly. The Northernmost territories and Yukon are some of the world’s greatest hotspots. You can self-camp, go with a campervan, or look for a cozy Airbnb. The north of Canada is accessible by plane. The best time to visit Canada for the northern lights is late August to mid-April.

Alaska

Even in the USA, you can watch the beautiful aurora at some places. Alaska is one of the best places to spot the northern lights. Because of the cold weather, the blue skies and the dark nights this place has the perfect conditions. Also here it is possible to enjoy the lights in a steaming hot spring. Besides the Aurora, Alaska has a lot more to offer. So is the wildlife of Alaska, with grizzly bears, moose and more, definitely worth seeing.
